Welcome aboard! We are thrilled to announce our new Senior Software Engineer Øystein Holvik Johnsen.
Øystein will be a part of the experienced software team at ScanReach, taking the position as a senior software engineer. This will strengthen the already robust technical department present at ScanReach.
Building a robust wireless connectivity solution for the maritime industry is no easy feat, requiring good understanding of both hardware and software solutions. His past experience with full stack development is paramount for the development for OWC (Onboard Wireless Communication).

From the first minute we met Øystein, I knew he would fit right into the ScanReach team. He is a great team player, and works well with the team. His previous experience with the whole stack, from hardware and firmware to backend and frontend will definitely come in handy with strengthening the OWC network. I am looking forward to working and learning from him!
Mathias Haugsbø, Full Stack Engineer, ScanReach
How do you enjoy spending your free time?
“I’m married and have two children, so most of my free time is spent on being a husband and a dad. But I’m a major nerd, with home automation being a big hobby. I like tinkering with sensors and automation scripts, or creating the odd cloud hosted web application. I’m constantly getting ideas for new projects I want to spend time I don’t have on. I’ve also recently bought a 3D printer, and I’m trying to learn CAD drawing. Other than this I try to balance out the nerdiness by playing bass guitar, learning to play piano, or just spending time with friends.”

What part of your past experience makes you a perfect candidate for ScanReach?
I’m an electronics engineer with a background as a radio/TV repairman. So troubleshooting and problem-solving is a core mindset for me. My previous work has given me experience with both hardware design, and embedded firmware and software development.
ScanReach is a modern and stimulating workplace with a perfect blend of hardware, software, and cloud technologies. This makes me a well-suited candidate for ScanReach. I’m very proud working for a company like ScanReach, who is developing technology making it possible to amongst other things save lives at sea with ConnectPOB and cut carbon emissions by reducing fuel consumption with ConnectFuel.
Øystein Holvik Johnsen, Senior Software Engineer, ScanReach.
What is your favourite part about the OWC network?
“What I love about the OWC network is the fact that it is a wireless mesh network. It enables communication between devices in a way that a cabled network never could – you just need to add support for the necessary devices. Need temperature readings in every cabin? No problem. Need measurements from the wind sensor in the bow communicated to the ships position regulation computer in the stern? You’ve got it. With a robust wireless mesh network on your ship, successful data communication is just a question of integration.”
Øystein is going to be a valuable asset to our company! Look forward to even better solutions and technology for the future of the maritime industry.
Over the last years, the ScanReach team has developed the breakthrough onboard wireless connectivity technology which enables data to travel anywhere on a maritime vessel without cabling. IoT sensor data in complex steel environments, such as vessels, rigs, and offshore wind turbines, is made available to management onboard and onshore.
